How to Add a Hyperlink to WordPress
There are two ways to insert a hyperlink into a WordPress site.
Way #1 Blogroll
One way is by adding a link to the blogroll. This puts a link on the sidebar on every page on your site. You will need to have a blogroll widget somewhere in your site for this to work.
Way #2 Inline Hyperlink
The better way is to insert the link into a post. Typing out a domain like www.ThomasUmstattd.com without making it a link is unprofessional.
The better way is to make the text link directly. So instead of putting www.ThomasUmstattd.com you would put Thomas Umstattd.
How to insert a link in WordPress:
- Go to the web page you want to link to.
- Copy the URL. It should start with “http://”
- Write the text you want to be a hyperlink. It is good to be descriptive and avoid the phrase “click here”
- Select the text.
- Click the make link button in WordPress. It looks like this
- Paste the URL from step one into the link field.
It looks like this:
- Then click insert.
Your link should turn blue like other links around the web.

After following the above example, my hyperlink remains the same color as the rest of my text unless I hover over it. Can you tell me how to change those settings?

Can you click on the URL? If so then the issue is with your sites CSS. You would need to talk with whoever designed your site.
If you can’t click on the URL then something is busted. If you send me a link I can take a look at it.
Tracey, I’m following all the steps and seems simple enough but when I add the link given by amazon-affiliate to my image on my blog, it sends it back to my website page… Not sure how to fix.

There are two possibilities here. Either your image already has a URL assigned to it or the link given by amazon-affiliate is set to go back to your website. If you send a link to the problem, I’ll take a look.
On following above steps the link turns blue with an underline. But nothing happens thereafter if i move the cursor on blie link.
You probably need to click “preview” or “publish”. Once you’re in the preview screen or the published post the hyperlink should work fine.
The hyperlink button is not highlighted, so when I click on it it will not open. Any suggestions?
